The launching ceremony has taken place in Pakistan as it is one of the countries hosting the World Cup, but none of the matches will be played here. Pakistan will retain its hosting fee of $10.5 million and additional compensation for the loss of hosting rights.

Pakistan was due to host 14 matches, eight have been moved to India, four to Sri Lanka and two to Bangladesh. The final will be played in Mumbai.

Pakistan had been stripped of its hosting rights by the ICC in April 2009, which cited the ‘uncertain security situation’ in the country as the reason. The decision had been take after the Sri Lankan team, which was touring Pakistan, came under attack in Lahore.
